Phase 1 of this project consisted of relocating the 4,816 SF Herche Building across the site to make room for the softball field stadium build-out and site development. The hitting facility was originally donated by a member of the community, therefore preserving the structure was a critical project goal that took months of planning with the building movers to accomplish. The building slab was first demolished so the structure could be braced, cut-free and relocated, via. hydraulic moving dollies, onto field surveyed caisson pier foundations waiting to receive the structure. The historical bleacher face wall from the original Seaside High School gym was preserved prior to the move and reinstalled just prior to completion of Phase 1. During Phase 2, the existing softball stadium was demolished immediately after the last softball game. The softball field and parking lot work consisted of new subgrade drainage, a new turf field, dug-outs, a press box, sports field specialties, 60’ tall backstop and foul ball netting systems cast mere feet away from the neighbors fence lines, new scoreboards, and sports field lighting upgrade for the entire Broadway Field Sports Complex. As part of maintaining good relations with the neighbors, the project replaced existing damaged areas of fencing, along with trimming trees and hedges along the shared property line.
